Security Guard Card and Blue Card Licensing Requirements In Connecticut
SECURITY OFFICER GUARD CARD LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
The main requirement for security guards and armed security officers in almost all of the states is the license (sometimes known as the 'guard card'.) While each state has its own guidelines for licenses, most employers require the applicant to be at least 18, pass a criminal background check, complete classroom training, and successfully pass a drug test. Classroom training can be only one approved course by DPS in subjects such as property's legal, emergency protocols, and properly detaining suspected criminals. The required classroom training to obtain eligibility as a security officer in Connecticut is referred to as Public Act 08-73 or commonly known as Guard Card Classes are required to be in compliance with Connecticut General Statutes and you must be at least 18 years of age to obtain a security officer license.

The amount of training guards receive varies. Training requirements are higher for armed guards because their employers are legally responsible for any use of force. Guards who carry weapons must be licensed by the appropriate government authority, and some receive further certification as special police officers, which allows them to make limited types of arrests while on duty. Armed guard positions have more stringent background checks and entry requirements than those of unarmed guards because of greater insurance liability risks. Compared to unarmed security guards, armed guards and special police typically enjoy higher earnings and benefits, greater job security, more advancement potential, and usually are given more training and responsibility.
We offer the State of Connecticut Blue Card Firearms Class for individuals that are of 21 years of age, possess a Connecticut State Pistol Permit and will be working as an armed uniformed or non-uniformed security officer.
